PMS supplements UK: saffron, B6 and cycle support

Saffron threads and vitamin capsules on a marble kitchen counter

UK PMS supplements sit on a wide shelf: a cheap high-street complex with a little vitamin B6 at one end, and a full daily hormone formula at the other. If you are searching for saffron, vitamin B6 as P5P, and cycle support rather than a painkiller, you are in food-supplement territory — not HRT, and not a treatment for PMDD, endometriosis or PCOS.

Women’s Health UK’s hormone-balancing guide is blunt: inositol for PCOS and magnesium for PMS can be discussed with a professional. See a GP if pain, flooding or mood changes are taking weeks off your life. Mefenamic acid, the combined pill, or a gynaecology referral sit in that building. Saffron does not.

What “PMS supplements UK” usually means

Pharmacy vitamin-B6 tablets exist as a single nutrient. Agnus castus (chasteberry) is a traditional herbal medicine lane. Symptoms people hope a cycle formula will sit next to: irritability, low mood, breast tenderness, bloating, energy crashes, brain fog, libido changes. Evidence for any one herb is mixed.

Saffron, B6 (P5P), and other nutrients people look for

Saffron shows up in mood-support formulas, sometimes standardised (for example to lepticrosalides). It is not an antidepressant. Vitamin B6 as P5P is discussed for hormonal activity and tiredness; very high long-term B6 has a neuropathy story — more is not more. Zinc is a mineral in many cycle formulas. Vitamin D3 varies; the NHS routine figure is 10 µg (400 IU), and the NHS cautions against exceeding 100 µg/day from supplements. Shatavari, rhodiola and ginseng are traditional / adaptogen botanicals. Myo-inositol and NAC belong in a PCOS/TTC conversation, not automatically in a PMS tub.

PMS versus PMDD versus peri

  • PMS — luteal-phase symptoms that settle when bleeding starts. Lifestyle, B6 and botanicals are the supplement conversation. Severe mood or suicidal thoughts are a GP/mental-health conversation the same day.
  • PMDD — a diagnostic category. SSRIs and specialist care exist. A saffron capsule is not that pathway.
  • Perimenopause — cycles change, sleep breaks, hot flushes join. Symptom guide: understanding perimenopause and menopause.

Endometriosis pain is not “bad PMS”. If that is the suspicion, start with a GP. Separate piece: endometriosis and fertility.

How Her Revive fits

Her Revive is our daily women’s vitality formula. The live facts panel includes saffron extract at 40 mg (3.5% lepticrosalides), vitamin B6 as P5P at 20 mg, zinc citrate at 30 mg, rhodiola root at 100 mg and Korean ginseng at 200 mg, plus shatavari 300 mg, vitamin D3 2,500 IU, selenium 200 µg and iodine 150 µg. It is built for multi-phase support — PMS and cycle, postpartum, and the peri–menopause transition. It is not HRT and not a fertility formula (that is Her Fertility). Give a cycle formula more than one luteal phase before you decide it does nothing. Add up other B6 and vitamin D products. Magnesium is still the honest extra if that is the only thing you want.
